Training Programs

Program 1

Leadership and Management – Leadership and Management training includes all skills required by supervisors, managers, and leaders to manage the products, processes, and projects within the Department. This training is based on leadership competencies that define leadership and set a standard for managerial behavior. Program 2

Technical/Professional - This program provides engineers and engineering technicians with engineering related courses intended primarily for engineering professionals. It also includes training for other technical disciplines in Bridge and Structures, Planning and Cartography, Right of Way, Computer Aided Engineering, and Architect and Landscape Architect fields.

Program 3

Employee Development - This program supports the widest range of job classification within the department while focusing on general skills needed by most employees. It supports all products and services through the provision of training in foundational and human behavior skills that include oral and written communications, administrative and office skills, and a variety of interpersonal techniques to enhance professional working relationships and quality customer service.

Program 4

Maintenance - This program supports the statewide maintenance programs in subject areas including the Transportation Equipment Fund, and Roadway Maintenance. This program supports the maintenance of signal devices, bridges, roadways, radio systems, medium and heavy equipment, motor vehicles, and facilities. This program is aimed at providing training that will aid in the preservation and maintenance of the State’s total transportation system.

Program 5

Safety - This program includes first aid, accident prevention, health, and other life-sustaining skills and practices to assist in maintaining a healthy and safe work environment for the department employees and the traveling public. Training in this program is coordinated to meet industrial and work place safety and health requirements and regulations.

Program 6

Information Technology - This program supports all job classifications requiring computer use within the department. It addresses the expanding use of personal and mainframe computers, the continual acquisition and implementation of new software and hardware, the increased complexity of technological decision-making, and the escalating use of computers in engineering and other areas through out the department.
