If you have ever stopped to walk your dog or use the facilities at the Elma Rest Area, you may have noticed what a nice clean place it is. That’s thanks to the hard work of Tina Florek, rest area attendant.

Tina began working for WSDOT in May 2009. She enjoys her job and takes pride in making sure the grounds look nice for the public who stop at the rest area.

Clean is in Tina’s blood it seems – she came to WSDOT from the Bremerton Housing Authority where she maintained four properties. There, she took care of the grounds and any building maintenance needed. When someone moved out of an apartment, Tina would clean and do any repairs to get everything ready for new tenants.

Born and raised in Shelton, Tina has two sons, and acquired a daughter last March when her youngest son got married.

When she isn’t working she can be found doing things around her house that she built three years ago in Kamilche. She has a few raised garden beds, some chickens and loves playing with her dogs.

She also enjoys playing softball, camping, gardening and spending time at the beach.
 
So next time you stop at the Elma Rest Area and you notice the bathrooms are clean and the grounds are well-kept remember to thank Tina.
