Featured Employee - Jessie Lin

Photo of Jessie LinJessie joined WSDOT in July of 2007 as the graphic designer for Urban Corridors Division in Seattle and is now on the graphic communications team at Headquarters in Olympia. She has created print materials, displays, websites, videos and animations for high profile projects, such as the SR 167 HOT Lanes Pilot Project, Smarter Highways, SR 520 bridge tolling and, very recently, the West Coast Electric Highway project. When she works on a project, she doesn’t just put things on paper as told; she’s part of the creative mind behind every piece she develops and is always ready to advise her client if there’s a better solution to achieve the project goal.

When asked what was the best thing about working at WSDOT, Jessie said, “It’s the people and the opportunity to get to know the different types of work we do involving transportation. As a graphic designer, I have the privilege to work with every department and office because of the nature of my role at WSDOT, and it’s amazing to learn how dedicated each WSDOT employee is to their job. I’m pretty much the last one in the process when we work on materials that will be presented to the public, the Legislature, the executives. And I get to be the first one to see what our target audience will see.”

Sometimes, in order to come up with a creative concept or translate information into visuals, Jessie has to study engineering drawings, read plan data sheets, visit sites, do research or test some device. As someone always eager to absorb new knowledge, Jessie said, “WSDOT provides the perfect environment for me to learn and grow.”

Before joining WSDOT, Jessie worked for a private company in Tacoma as their lead graphic designer and marketing coordinator. She said she misses the responsibility of designing tradeshow displays and flying out to sites to set them up; therefore, as part of her service here at WSDOT, Jessie enjoys helping project teams set up event sites, fulfilling her personal role as “beautifier.”

Jessie lives in the South Sound area with an 8-year-old female Jack Russell Terrier and a 3-year-old male tabby cat. In her spare time, Jessie enjoys taking photographs, running, hiking, reading and volunteering at a museum in downtown Tacoma.
