Every year 23 ferry vessels go to the Eagle Harbor Maintenance Facility for annual maintenance. The facility staffs 120 people from 9 different trades including locksmiths, carpenters and machinists. These dedicated workers also perform maintenance on the 20 Ferry terminals between Friday Harbor & Point Defiance. This department can be called in the middle of the night to anywhere in the ferry system to perform emergency repairs which keep the traveling public on schedule.
Catherine is the Health & Safety Coordinator for the facility. She has worked at Eagle Harbor since 2004, first as a sheetmetal worker, and the last five years in safety.
“There is never a dull moment; there are always questions to research, new law developments to decipher or emerging products to consider. Plus site visits to see how the workers are doing, and if they are doing it safely! I owe all the employees a debt of gratitude, if it weren’t for their personal ownership of the safety program, we would never have accomplished what we have over the last few years. I work with an amazing & talented group of people, which makes my job even more rewarding.”
