A Data Analyst Shows that You Really Can Have It All
The WSDOTer Featured: Kyle Miller
Job Title: Collision Data Supervisor (Transportation Planning Specialist 3)
Career Stats: Started off in November 2001 as an Office Assistant, making photo copies of collision reports. He has worked his way up the career highway to his current position in the Collision Data & Analysis Branch of the Transportation Data Office.
If you’re trying to find Kyle Miller away from work, you might find him playing hardball for the Capitol City Bombers. On the other hand, you could also find him at the gym lifting weights, camping, riding his quad or out spending quality time with his family. In fact, Kyle is so involved; you could find him almost anywhere, except for eating brussel sprouts with cheese on them of course! Since starting at WSDOT, almost 8 years ago, Kyle really has proven you can have a successful career and a life outside of work too. We caught up with Kyle in between his busy schedule to find out a little more about him and hopefully gain some pointers on multi-tasking.
After a short interview with Kyle, we came to find out his life is even more impressive than we first thought. In addition to work, Kyle and his wife Renae are busy raising their two kids K.J. (6 ½) and Kailey (1 ½) as well as putting themselves through school to further their education and careers. However, Kyle hasn’t accomplished everything he wants to just yet. On his list, are traveling to Fiji (hopefully on a second honeymoon!) to go Scuba Diving and finishing up his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at WSU.
When asked why he likes working at WSDOT, Kyle was quick to respond that he likes the challenge of being able to make a difference as far as making the roads safer. The
Transportation Data Office (TDO) is a tightly integrated business and technical environment, which strategically leverages new technologies to create, support and improve its products and services. The TDO Office strives to help the agency make "
Better Decisions Through Better Data" and Kyle is an integral part of ensuring this. However, Kyle is also very appreciative of the hard work that the staff from the Collision Data and Analysis Branch does by providing timely and accurate collision data for their customers. Without them he would not be as successful in his career as he is today. He also is extremely excited about being a part of something that is so helpful in creating safer roads and quicker commute times for the citizens of Washington State. In fact, Kyle likes his job so much; the only other career he might contemplate is playing Major League Baseball.
