Photo of WSDOT Employee, Ken HealeKen Heale serves the people of Washington State in two different capacities. First as the WSDOT Eastern Region Transportation Electronics Supervisor, secondly as a Chief Master Sergeant in the Washington Air National Guard. Ken joined the WSDOT team in 1998 coming from the City of Lynnwood Public Works Department. Before being hired by the City of Lynnwood, Ken traveled the world in the Navy working on the F-14 Tomcat radar system and taught electronics engineering technology for ITT Technical Institute. “I have been all over the world and all across our country, but I have always ended up coming home to eastern Washington.”

“As the Transportation Electronics Supervisor, my team is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 3000 devices over 7 counties. We work on everything from street lighting, to traffic signals, to the camera systems you see on the WSDOT web page and on your local news channels. I would recommend WSDOT and the transportation electronics career field to anyone who likes diversity in their job. WSDOT is an awesome place to work. There are many great people here and in my career field I get to interact with many different work groups. I enjoy working with the other WSDOT employees. They are a professional and caring group of people.”

“I enjoy both my WSDOT and Air Guard careers. WSDOT takes great care of its employees. My management team has always been supportive of my role here as well as my role in the Air Guard.” That role in the Air Guard keeps Heale quite busy. “I am the 252nd Combat Communications Group Superintendent. In that role I work directly for the Group Commander providing leadership, management, and guidance in organizing, equipping, training and mobilizing the Group Headquarters and our 5 subordinate squadrons. Being Group Superintendent is a big job considering those squadrons are spread across the state and encompass several hundred people.”

Ken, who lives in the Spokane Valley, has been married to his wife Ann for 25 years. They have 3 boys, Shawn, Joey, and Eric. In his spare time, Ken enjoys restoring cars and jogging.
