Gabe Ng

In a time when the economy is struggling, Gabe Ng is taking pride in the work he’s accomplished on a stimulus-funded project that will repair damaged portions of Interstate 5. The project recently left his desk and is currently being advertised to contractors in need of work.

“Even though it’s a routine concrete repair project, it was exciting working on it because of what the project means to this economy,” Ng said. “It’s going to bring some much needed repairs to I-5 near Stanwood.”

From beginning to end, Ng and his team spent an intense three months designing the project. That’s a remarkably short period of time considering it usually takes a year or more to design most projects of this size and scope.

Ng has worked for the department since April 1, 2005 (April Fools’ Day). He graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Civil Engineering. In his four years, he’s both designed and inspected construction projects in Whatcom and Skagit counties, and he currently is a design team leader. He particularly enjoys the diversity, challenge and large-scale projects that he gets to work on.

He lives in Bellingham and works in Burlington. He makes the most of the 25-mile commute by carpooling with three coworkers. Though he enjoys his job, he is still able to find time to spend with his wife and 3-year old daughter. He and wife are expecting their second child in October. (Congratulations!) As an avid hunter, he spends many of his spring and fall weekends hunting game.
