Jennifer Wagner

HQ Benefits and Wellness Coordinator

Jennifer joined the Headquarters’ Office of Human Resources team as the Benefits and Wellness Coordinator in May 2007. Before coming to WSDOT Jennifer worked in Human Resources and Health Administration at Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington. Jennifer said she was drawn to WSDOT because “it is a very diverse and unique agency.”

Jennifer’s job requires thorough and extensive knowledge of the state health policy and retirement options, as well as knowledge of legislative policies. This enables Jennifer to educate WSDOT employees giving them confidence in understanding their benefits. Jennifer’s view on her customers and the service she provides is to, “effectively communicate with fellow employees, provide excellent customer service, and help people use their state benefits appropriately as they take care of WSDOT’s business.” If something goes wrong with an employee’s benefits, Jennifer serves as their advocate in making things right.

Since Jennifer has come to WSDOT, she has implemented quarterly informational sessions with representatives from the Department of Retirement Systems. These sessions give employees an opportunity to learn about the state retirement plans and the Deferred Compensation Program. Employees are encouraged to come and ask questions.

Twice a month Jennifer conducts New Employee Benefits Orientation which is required for all new or returning headquarters employees. This orientation gives employees detailed information of their benefits as well as instructions on completing the required forms.

Jennifer also serves as the Wellness Coordinator. The Wellness Program brings health awareness to the work place. Jennifer encourages employees to take their Health Risk Assessment (HRA) annually. The HRA is confidential and serves as a good self evaluation for an employee’s health. To reduce stress while at work Jennifer has implemented a chair massage program where Headquarters employees can take time from their busy work day to relax and relieve stress.

Moving forward Jennifer would like to see a comprehensive Wellness Program established agency-wide. She is currently planning a much more detailed website dedicated to wellness. She has also created a strategic plan for 2008 that includes more active participation in worksite wellness activities.

In this versatile position Jennifer focuses on employee’s needs and aims to give exceptional service. “I like people, helping employees is very gratifying” states Jennifer. Her innovative ideas and excellent customer service can only lead to more exciting opportunities for WSDOT.

Jennifer can be contacted via email or telephone and welcomes any questions an employee may have.
