After 20 years working as a mechanic for Waste Management Incorporated in Wenatchee, Tom Pinger decided it was time for a change. An opening last December at the WSDOT’s Wenatchee Consolidated Shop facility offered a competitive salary, but more importantly, says Tom, “Better working conditions”. And now, seven months later, Tom says he’s satisfied he made the right choice, “I like the facility, the work and the people.” The feeling is apparently mutual as it was a coworker who suggested he be the featured employee for the North Central Region.
Tom is 52, married to Juanita and commutes 70 miles every day from the family homestead in Mansfield in Douglas County. “It was a great place to raise kids – with only a dozen or so in a graduating class, it was like having a private school,” said Tom. His 28 year old son is a materials specialist in the athletic shoe industry and lives and works in China. His 24 year old daughter got married in June. “Life is good,” he says.
