The Washington State Department of Transportation policies concerning roadside safety are contained in Division 7 of the WSDOT Design Manual.

Chapter 700, Roadside Safety addresses the area outside of the roadway and is an important component of total highway design.  Guidance on roadside safety issues is presented in this chapter.

Chapter 710, Traffic Barriers includes traffic barriers, terminals and transitions that are approved for use by WSDOT.

Chapter 720, Impact Attenuators describes the impact attenuators that are approved for use by WSDOT.
