THESE ARE EXPERIMENTAL DESIGNS
The Federal Highway Administration has not approved these designs but their use is allowed as part of a nationwide experiment. Although these markings may seem perfectly suited to a project site, their installation could compromise Federal funding. If this is a concern to the contracting agency -- as it usually is on WSDOT projects -- then one should apply to participate in the experiment and acquire permission before installing these traffic arrows. See Section 1A.10 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways, 2003 Edition.
