The Type 2 concrete barrier has a New Jersey shape face on both sides. The Type 5 barrier was a later adaptation of this barrier and had an inward sloping back face. This sloped face was compatible with the exterior face of some bridge traffic barriers. As such, the Type 5 concrete barrier had very limited applications and is now seldom used on WSDOT projects.
