This plan shows variations of grates that are available and meet the ADA requirements.  When retrofitting a sidewalk with ramps for ADA access, the placement of the ramp may conflict with existing drainage structures.  These grates are available as a retrofit option to replace the existing grate.

The grates and frames are available for new construction as well, however, designers should consider these grates on new construction only when moving the grate to another location is not an option.  The first option should always be to keep the drainage inlet away from the sidewalk ramp to eliminate conflicts with pedestrian movements.
