03020A.GR9 Statistical Aggregate Specification
(August 6, 2007)
When to use Statistical Aggregate Specification:
This General Special Provision is an alternative
to aggregate acceptance for unbound materials.
The items which it may be used are Crushed Screening,
Ballast, Shoulder Ballast, Crushed Surfacing,
Maintenance Rock, Gravel base, Gravel Backfill for
Foundation Class A, Gravel Backfill for Foundation
Class B, Gravel Backfill for Walls, Gravel Backfill
for Pipe Zone Bedding, Gravel Backfill for Drains,
Gravel Backfill for Drywells, Backfill for Sand Drains,
Sand Drainage Blanket, Gravel Borrow, Select Borrow,
Foundation Materials Class A, Foundation Material Class B,
Foundation Material Class C, and Bank Run Gravel For
Trench Backfill.
What this specification does is to recognize the
variability of these materials and documents a
procedure to adjust the payment for these items
based on the Quality Level provided. In the past
this would have required a Change Order.
The process is particularly suited for production
of aggregates stockpiled for use on future contracts
or aggregates to be used on current contracts.
A bid item "Aggregate Compliance Price Adjustment"
needs to be included in the contract.
