MicroStation Instructions-Expanded Level

MicroStation Expanded Level Resource Installation Instructions

Expanded Levels for use with InRoads
Verified with MicroStation V8.05.01.25 and V8.09.04.51

It is recommended that you download the resource zip file to a temporary directory outside of the Bentley Application directory (i.e. C:\Temp or C:\My Download Files).

Once the resource zip file has been downloaded, the following procedure will set up MicroStation V8 to run using the WSDOT Workspaces. It is required that you have MicroStation V8.05.01.25 or V8.09.04.51 already installed before proceeding.

NOTE - This procedure:

  • Is the same whether for a patch or a full installation.
  • Assumes you are using the standard MicroStation V8 install, which uses C:\Program Files\Bentley as the application directory.  If a different directory is used, the following WSDOT Resource files will need to be edited:
    • CAE_rsc\MicroStation V8 WSDOT Expanded.lnk
    • CAE_rsc\MicroStation XM WSDOT Expanded.lnk
    • CAE_rsc\MS_ExpandedLevels\MS_V8.bat
    • CAE_rsc\MS_ExpandedLevels\MS_XM.bat

1.    Unzip Resources:
Unzip the resource zip file to the root level of your C: drive making sure the “Use Folder Names" option is active. The WSDOT Resources will be unzipped to the C:\CAE_RSC folder.

  • C:\CAE_RSC\MS_ExpandedLevels contains the MicroStation resources used in conjunction with InRoads.
  • C:\CAE_RSC\COMMON contains the WSDOT utilities not exclusively related to MicroStation such as the Create WSDOT Project utility.

2.    Clean Out Obsolete Files:
Some files may no longer be applicable to the current resource version. This step removes obsolete files to keep the folder structure clean.

Run C:\CAE_RSC\MS_ExpandedLevels\Cleanup_[PatchDate].bat

3.    Starting MicroStation with the WSDOT Resources:
Based on the version of MicroStation installed on your workstation, use the appropriate icon to initiate it with the WSDOT Expanded Levels environment:

  • C:\CAE_rsc\MicroStation V8 WSDOT Expanded
  • C:\CAE_rsc\MicroStation XM WSDOT Expanded

4.    Additional instructions for installing CAE_RSC to an alternate location:
If you've installed the CAE_RSC directory on a server or another directory locally, follow these steps:

  • Browse to the ..CAE_rsc\MS_ExpandedLevels\Config directory.
  • Perform the following for each of the files WSDOT_V8.cfg WSDOT_XM.CFG.

    • Open this file in an ASCII text editor such as Notepad.
    • Change the first line:

      _USTN_SITE: C:/cae_rsc/ MS_ExpandedLevels //
         to
      _USTN_SITE: ?:/cae_rsc/ MS_ExpandedLevels //

where ? is the drive letter/path your CAE_RSC installation is on.
  • Browse to the ..CAE_rsc\MS_ExpandedLevels directory.
  • Find the 5 files below that start WSDOT MicroStatation in its various modes:
    • CAE_rsc\MS_ExpandedLevels\MS_V8.bat
    • CAE_rsc\MS_ExpandedLevels\MS_XM.bat
    • CAE_rsc\MS_ExpandedLevels\StartMS_V8.bat
    • CAE_rsc\MS_ExpandedLevels\StartMS_XM.bat
    • CAE_rsc\MS_ExpandedLevels\Cleanup_Date.bat

  • For each file, open the file in an ASCII text editor such as Notepad
  • Change the first line:

set CAE_DRV=C
to
set CAE_DRV=?

where ? is the drive letter\path your CAE_RSC installation is on.
