Use the Completed Project Template

Once your project is complete, you should create a new home page using the completed project template.

Completed Project Instructions

When your project is complete follow these steps to create your new home page.

Create Your New Page

  • Open Internet Explorer and browse to your current project home page.

  • "Switch to Edit Site" and click "Create New Page" in your Author Console.

  • The Template Gallery dialog box will open. Open the Projects template folder by clicking on "Projects".

  • Select the template "CompletedProject".

Put Content in Your New Page

  • Once your new page appears, fill in the placeholders with the appropriate text.

  • Edit your project overview to keep it as brief as possible.

  • Focus on the benefits of the completed project. See a completed project example.

  • In the "How You Benefit" placeholder, you can choose which benefit icons are displayed by using the drop-down menu "Show this content".
Select either yes or no from the drop-down menu.

If you select "yes", the icon will appear on the live page and you can add content supporting the benefit. See a completed project example.

Adding Financial Information

Financial information for WSDOT projects is now being provided directly from the systems maintained by Project Control and Reporting Office. This information is displayed on the project page in table format.

You can activate these financial tables by following this process:

  • Go to the project edit page and follow the link for "page properties."
  • Open the "custom" tab.
  • Scroll down to "ShowFinancialTable" selection and switch the setting from true to false.
  • Return to the "ShowFinancialTable" selection and switch the setting from no to yes.

Monthly financial updates are also provided in pdf format. You can add this to the left navigation column by following this process:

  • Go to the project edit page and follow the link for "page properties."
  • Open the "custom" tab.
  • Scroll down to "ShowMonthlyUpdateLeftNav" selection and switch the setting from true to false.
  • Return to the "ShowMonthlyUpdateLeftNav" selection and switch the setting from no to yes.

Please refer any questions about the financial data to your regional program management office and the assistant program delivery manager (APDM) for your region.

Insert Map and Photos

  • Insert map and photo thumbnails that help tell the project story.

If you want to use the same map and photos as your original home page, the easiest way is to use the HTML code and paste it into the new template. This is easier than browsing to your resource gallery.

    To use the same photos:

    • Open a new browser window and go to your original home page.
    • Click "Switch To Edit Site".
    • Click "Edit"
    • Put your cursor in the map or photo placeholder and switch to the HTML code view by clicking on the <> button along the bottom of that placeholder.
    • Using your mouse, select all the HTML code, and select copy from your Browser Edit Menu or use CTRL+C.
    • Go to your new page and while in the edit mode, put your cursor in the map or photo placeholder and switch to the HTML code view by clicking the <> button along the bottom of the placeholder.
    • While in the HTML code view, paste your code into the placeholder by selecting paste from your Browser Edit Menu or use CTRL+V.
    • Click the design view (the pencil) button to see the image and/or to update the caption.

  • If you do not have photos try to find some. Photos, especially before and after photos, can reinforce the improvements. If no photos are available leave the placeholder empty.

Save Your Work

  • When you have finished editing your page, click "Save New Page."

  • In the Save dialog box, the page name should be "default" and the display name should be "Project Title - Complete Month Year" See a completed project example. Click the save button.

Change Left Nav Name

  • Once your page is saved, click on "Page Properties" in your Web Author console. Under the custom tab use the drop-down menu by the "LeftNavName" option and select "False". Then type "Project Home" into the corresponding field.

Send for Approval

  • Once your editing is complete and you've saved your page - submit your new page for approval.
  • The Web moderator will modify your channel name to include: "Complete Month Year" (please e-mail Web Help with the month and year the project was completed)

Delete the Old Home Page

  • Once your new page has been approved, the Web Team will expire the old project home page.

Once these items are complete, your completed projects will be removed from your Active Project index list and appear in your Completed Project index list.

Please contact WSDOT Web Help if you have questions about moving your project page into a completed project template.
