PaveCool is a computer-based asphalt pavement cooling program developed by University of Minnesota for the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT). PaveCool is available to assist contractors, inspectors and engineers with rapid decisions regarding cool-weather paving.
PaveCool Details
The user enters the following data into PaveCool:
- time of day
- date
- latitude of the paving job
- type of mixture
- type of surface being paved
- surface temperature
- air temperature
- wind speed
- lift thickness
- mixture delivery temperature
- amount of cloud cover
PaveCool's heat flow model computes the temperature drop in the material and the time it takes for the asphalt mix to cool from its delivery temperature to 175 degrees Fahrenheit (80 degrees Centigrade).
