Bikes on Washington State Ferries and Amtrak Cascades Rail Service

Waiting to board the ferryWSDOT welcomes cyclists to the Washington State Ferries. The ferries are heavily used by recreational cyclists and commuters throughout the year and especially in the summer months.

You'll always be in good company on the ferries. In 2002, an estimated 250,000 trips on the ferries were made by cyclists and that's not even counting the bikes on bike racks.

These links to the ferry system web pages will answer most questions about bicycles and the ferry system.

Bike rack aboard Amtrak CascadesAmtrak's Cascades service connects stations between Eugene, Oregon and Vancouver, British Columbia with stops at population centers along the corridor in Western Washington. the Cascades service can be a good way to expand a cycle itinerary in Washington. There are racks for six unboxed standard bicyles (not tandems or recumbents) in the baggage section of each train. Other bikes must be boxed. For further information on traveling with bicycles on Amtrak Cascades, the Amtrak Bicycles Webpage is where you should turn
