The Government Management, Accountability & Performance (GMAP) is the cornerstone of Governor Gregoire’s accountability initiative. GMAP serves as an internal and external tool for sharing current, up-to-date performance data rather then relying on older reports and publications for performance assessment.
Every month, the Governor and her staff meet with the heads of state agencies and departments to evaluate the performance results that these organizations are currently delivering. These open, candid meetings provide insight into what is and what is not working in state agencies, and what is needed to improve performance and achieve on deliverables. These meetings (held in Olympia twice a month in the Legislative Building) are open public forums.
GMAP forums are focused on the highest priorities that each agency is responsible for, or charged by the Governor. Safety, Transportation, Economic Development, and the Environment are important recurring issues that are openly addressed in the GMAP forums. When the forums identify issues where performance needs to be improved, GMAP serves as a forum for developing performance measures as well as reporting on the progress to reach level of service goals that are acceptable to the Governor and the state.
GMAP forums prior to December 2008 were given as PowerPoint presentations. Since the December 10, 2008, forum, GMAP uses Dataview - an interactive website that shows data and analysis to both GMAP analysts and the public at large. Links are included to each of the Dataview presentations.
