2006 Congestion Report - Federal Way to Seattle

The two graphs below display the percent of days on each route when traffic speeds fell below 35 mph. The darker line shows data for 2005. The lighter line shows data for 2003.

Morning Federal Way to Seattle via I-5 graph shows 2005 data just over 90% from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. dropping to 80% at 8:30 a.m. and declining from there compared to 2003 data showing a peak of 60% around 7:30 a.m. Afternoon Seattle to Federal Way to Seattle via I-5 graph shows 2005 data averaging around 40% between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. compared to 2003 data showing averages around 30% between 4 p.m. and 5:15 p.m.

The graph below displays highway productivity for a specific point along this route. When the line is at 100%, the maximum number of vehicles per hour are travelling through this point. Any time the line dips below 100%, the system is not operating at 100% efficiency.

I-5 at I-90 graph shows 2005 data dropping to around 30% between 6:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. and to a low of 40% at 6:45 p.m. bewteen 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. compared to 2003 data of lows around 45% between 6:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. and 50% between 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. and 60% between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

I-5 at South 188th St. near Sea-Tac graph shows 2005 data dropping to 80% at 9 a.m. between 8 a.m. and 9:30 am.m and again to 55% at 6 p.m. between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. compared to 2003 data showing lows to 85% at 9 a.m. and 60% at 6 p.m. for the same time frames.
